The coach behind the work.
Calum Simpson is a BSc-qualified personal trainer in Aberdeen, specialising in mental health coaching, movement, and strength training. Based at Lightning Fitness on Wellington Circle, he helps people from Aberdeen, Cove Bay, Torry and Altens build a stronger body and a stronger mind — together.
Fifteen years in this industry teaches you one thing above all: the people who last aren't the ones with the toughest routines. They're the ones whose training fits the life they're actually living. That's the kind of work Calum does.
Mental health is at the core of everything. Having lived through poor mental health himself, Calum understands — not academically, but personally — what exercise can do when it's approached with honesty and patience. Sessions blend physical training with the kind of conversation that actually helps: sleep, stress, energy, and what it takes to keep showing up.
The result is a well-rounded programme that meets you where you are. No matter whether you've trained for years or haven't stepped in a gym this decade, the aim is the same — give you the tools to become the strongest version of yourself, mentally and physically.
Training that works with your head, not against it. Honest, practical, lived.
Learn to move well first. Strength and aesthetics follow, not the other way round.
Build competence in the gym and it spills into every other room you walk into.
Not a six-week programme. A relationship with training that lasts years.
